The mission of the Pasadena chapter of the African American Parent Council is to:
honor and embrace the identity and experiences of Pasadena Unified School District’s African-American families
advocate for the cultural acceptance of all,
and mobilize and engage all stakeholders to transform the system to ensure a high-quality education for every student.
At Hamilton, we host a variety of recurring and special events throughout the year, such as:
Families took to the Metro to view various art installations featured in several K Line stations created by local artists.
After the K Line tour, families also stopped in to show support for Malik Books and added some amazing new books to their collections.
A yearly sell-out featuring all the soul food favorites. Parents volunteer to bring and serve food, discuss the history of soul food dishes and African American culture with classrooms and work with teachers, including the art teacher, to create various art projects.
Parents volunteered throughout the month of February to read stories to all grade levels highlighting Black figures recent and historical.
In conjunction with the District AAPC, parents volunteer in 1st and 2nd grade classes to support teachers having smaller math breakout sessions. The purpose of Math Power Hour (MPH) is to target both the student’s establishment of a firm fundamental understanding of early math concepts and to foster confidence and a positive attitude towards learning math.
Centered on the effects of colonialism on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) literature, language, and music.
Kids and parents took time out for bonding and community during a low-key weekend hike in our beautiful Pasadena foothills.
AAPC families welcomed Fall and readied themselves for Halloween at the patch.
AAPC families opened their homes for a variety of casual celebrations – Beginning of school year, end of school year, and 4th of July.
